Why Music ?

"...the wind, one brilliant day, called." (Antonio Machado)*

"... our good nature, our regard for ourselves, and our health are all bound to be compromised if, day after day, we do the opposite of what we desire, we say the opposite of what we believe, we allow ourselves to be pushed and pulled where we do not want to go. The most exhausting thing in my life is being insincere." (Anne Morrow Lindbergh)*

"... I have ceased to question stars and books; I have begun to listen to the teachings my blood whispers to me" (Herman Hesse)*

"... it is not being loved and admired by other people that brings joy to living. Joy comes in being able, myself, to love and admire whatever I find is rare and good and beautiful ... in the sky, in my friends ... and in the soul of my own living... " (Richard Bach)

"... for me, music is this magic acoustic element that makes perfectly rational people who have come to realize that they are truly alone in the world somehow feel for fleeting moments that maybe they're not alone after all... " (Billy Joel)

"... three kinds of souls, three prayers: 1. I am a bow in your hands, draw me lest I rot. 2. Do not overdraw me, I shall break. 3. Overdraw me and who cares if I break! " (Nikos Kazantzakis)*

" ... speak your mind, even when your voice shakes." (Maggie Kuhn, founder of the Gray Panthers)

"... and the time came when the risk it took to remain in a tightly closed bud became infinitely more painful than the risk it took to blossom." (Anais Nin)

* these quotes come from a most incredible book, called "Callings - Finding and Following an Authentic Life" by Gregg Levoy
