Sue Turner, D.P.M
I am a podiatrist (foot doctor) based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Since 1991 I have had the privilege of treating people and their foot problems - I've seen over 18,000 pair. Wow, that is a lot of feet, and a lot of people attached to those feet! I love every challenge that comes my way and have a keen interest in attempting to solve what appear to be unsolvable problems for people. Sometimes people come in limping and they leap away!
FOOT SOLUTIONS
Yes. That's what we all want - solutions to our problems. Make it as quick and painless and inexpensive as possible please. Finding solutions to peoples' foot problems can be a complex process. If the problem is straight forward - a corn on a toe - it may be easy to fix. If the problem is multi-faceted - it may require a great deal of investigation and discussion and trying of various options. The key is not only to be solution oriented but to have a clear picture of what the problem is.
My Solution-Finding Philosophy
Stop denying that there is a problem. Recognition of problem is the first step.
Seek professional help. We all know the pitfalls and sometimes serious consequences of trying to fix things that are best left to a professional. Of course, it can be fun trying - but this is your body, your health, your well-being we're talking about.
Search out the best professional help you can find. Ask people you trust. Trust your own intuition. Don't feel bad about getting a second opinion if you're not completely comfortable with the first one. Again, it's your body - you are responsible for its care.
Pay attention to what your body is saying. Don't ignore the clues that are there to help you.
Give a clear and complete description of the problem to the professional who you have trusted to help you.
If you are given a treatment plan, follow it diligently. Then you can truly know that something did or didn't work.
Follow-up is absolutely essential. Very often, the solution to the problem is hiding somewhere. It may take persistence and determination to find the solution.
Recognize the possibility that you may not really want to get better. Having sore feet allows you to slow down, maybe even stop working.
You're not able to accomplish as much, run as many errands, do as many things.......... sound appealing? If so, then stop being so busy for a while and see if your body rewards you with improved health.
